Pre-K 3

Teacher: Mrs. Czuprynski

After earning an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1988 and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1991, I've enjoyed the last 28 years teaching and working with children from Pre-K - Grade 5. My husband and I have three sons who have all attended SME. Our youngest is in eighth grade this year and our older sons are in college at Buff State and UB. Work and home keep me happy and busy and I'm looking forward to another awesome year, this year with Pre-K 3!


 

 

Pre-K 3 & 4

Teacher: Mrs. O'Grady

Hi! My name is Jayne O'Grady. I've been a preschool teacher for 10 years. I graduated from Trocaire College with an Associates in Early Childhood Education and then graduated from Medaille College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education. I was a stay at home mom for 10 years, for my 3 children. They all attend SME. They are in 7th, 5th and 2nd grade.  I am real excited to be back teaching and looking forward to an amazing year with your children.

 

 

Pre-K 4

Teacher: Ms. Jones

I am ecstatic to be a member of our amazing Pre-K team here at St. Mary's Elementary with over 10 years of teaching experience. I absolutely love my job and I am looking forward to an exciting year filled with making memories! I graduated from Buffalo State College with a dual Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education and I completed my Master's Degree in Childhood Special Education at Medaille College. Our Pre-K students enter kindergarten not only prepared for new academic content, but also comfortable with our school and are motivated and ambitious to move forward. SME is truly a special place to be!

 

 

 

Pre-K 4

Teacher: Mrs. Laidman

I have sixteen years of teaching experience in the Diocese of Buffalo. I have been at St. Mary's Elementary for thirteen years, teaching second and third grade and currently teach PreK-4. I previously taught at St. Josaphat's School in Cheektowaga.  I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont.


 

 

Kindergarten

Teacher: Mrs. Michalek

Hello!  My name is Jennifer Michalek and I am in my second year of teaching kindergarten here at St. Mary's. I am a graduate of Canisius College and am certified in grades pre-k through sixth.  My previous years of teaching have given me experience in pre-k, kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade.

 

 

 

1st Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Marrano

I'm Tricia Marrano I teach 1st grade! This will be my second year at St. Mary's, but this will be my fourth year teaching! I am also a Reading Specilaist. In my free time, I like to be with my husband and family! I enjoy running marathon and teaching fitness class! I'm very excited for the new school year!

 

 

 

2nd Grade

Teacher: Mr. Malachowski

I am a certified teacher in both Childhood Education and Early Childhood Education. I have been teaching for 11 years, entering my fifth year at St. Mary's Elementary. I am also a licensed Optician for over 30 years and continue to work as an Optician on a part-time basis. I am married to Nancy, a retired Kindergarten teacher and we have 5 children between us with 10 grandchildren.

 

 

 

3rd Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Darling

I graduated from Buffalo State College with a bachelor's and master's degree in Elementary Education. This September, I will be starting my sixth year as a teacher at St. Mary's. Prior to that, I was a director of an Edukids Early Childhood Learning Center and an adjunct professor in the Early Childhood Department at Erie Community College. I also have experience as a substitute and interim teacher in the Lancaster, Hamburg, Holland, and West Seneca Central School Districts.

 

 

 

4th Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Brinkworth

My name is Dianne Brinkworth, this will be my 2nd year teaching 4th grade at SME and the 20th year of my professional teaching career. I've taught almost everything over time, but have spent the most time teaching 3rd grade in North Carolina, and remedial & enrichment at St. John Vianney as the Learning Resource Teacher. I am permanently certified in New York State. I received my undergrad from Buffalo State in Elementary Education and my masters from the University of Phoenix in Curriculum and Instruction. I look forward to getting to know all of you and working with your children.

 

 

 

5th Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Gramza

I am Chelcie Gramza, and will be teaching 5th grade here at St. Mary's for the 2017-2018 school year.  I have my certifications in childhood 1-6 and well as students with disabilities 1-6, and hold a master's in public administration. This is my 4th year teaching.  My previous teaching experiences have been at the first grade level as well as a year as a special education teacher.  I look forward to a wonderful year!

 

 

 

6th Grade

Teacher: Mrs. Farina

Hello I am Ashley Farina and I am excited to be teaching 6th grade. I graduated in 2012 with my Bachelors in Science degree from Empire State College. In August of 2016 I obtained my Masters in Education degree from Medaille College. I am currently attending Medaille College to get my special education certification. I can't wait to meet and to get to know each and every family. 

 

 

 

Middle School English Language Arts

Teacher: Mrs. Wojnar

"I was born with a reading list that I will never finish" (Maud Casey) best describes me as a person, and also, an English Language Arts teacher. My love of reading (and writing) knows no boundary. I studied with Hilbert College and earned my bachelor's degree in English. I furthered my studies and enrolled into Medaille College, earning a master's degree in Adolescent Education, English. I am New York certified to teach English Language Arts, grades 7-12 and am currently working toward permanent certification. Middle school students are rewarding to teach - I could not be happier.

 

 

 

Middle School Math

Teacher: Ms. Poepsel

I am the middle school math teacher and 7th grade homeroom teacher. I am an alumna of the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart. I attended the University of New Haven and received my Master's degree in Education in 2011. I obtained my New York State certification in Social Studies in 2012 and my certification in Mathematics in 2013. I am looking forward to starting my 3rd school year at St. Mary's Elementary School! 

 

 

 

 

Middle School Science

Teacher: Miss Chudyk

I am a graduate of Buffalo State College with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology Education. I am currently a fifth year doctoral student at the University at Buffalo in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning with a concentration in Science Education. I hold teacher certifications in Biology, Chemistry, and General Science for grades 7-12. This will be my second year teaching middle school science at St. Mary's Elementary.

 

 

 

Middle School Social Studies

Teacher: Mrs. Morrella

My love of history goes back as far as I can remember. I hold a Bachelor's degree in history with a focus on World Religions and African-American History from Canisius College and a master's degree in Adolescent Education/Social Studies also from Canisius College. I am New York State certified to teach Social Studies in grades 5-12 and absolutely love teaching middle school. Outside of the classroom, I spend time with my family, try to be outdoors whenever possible and volunteer as a dog walker at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.

 

 

 

AIS - English Language Arts

Teacher: Mrs. Gasiecki

I'm a Lancaster resident and an Elementary Education graduate of Buffalo State College.  I have 20 years of teaching experience across several grades levels including:  Pre-k, K, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. This is my 3rd year working at SME and my 2nd year as the AIS-Literacy teacher. I am delighted to be back again this year working with the wonderful students and staff at SME!


 

 

AIS - Math

Teacher: Mrs. Wojcik

Hello, I am Mrs. Wojcik and this is my third year at SME as the Elementary Math AIS Teacher. I work with grades Kindergarten-6th. I am certified in Childhood Education with a math concentration and am currently pursuing Childhood Curriculum and Instruction through my graduate program. I look forward to the start of another great year and am excited to be here!


 

 

Art

Teacher: Mrs. Connors

Hello! My name is Marisa Connors and I teach art at St. Mary's. This is my second-year teaching at SME and I am very excited for this year! I graduated from Buffalo State College in 2014 with my Bachelors of Science in Art Education. I am recently finishing my Masters of Science in Art Education at Buffalo State. Outside of school, I enjoy painting, reading and hiking. My true passion is inside the classroom, teaching students about the art world and all its facets. I am blessed to have a position at SME, and I can't wait to make great artwork with our students!

 

 

 

Gym/Health

Teacher: Mr. Norton

I am a N.Y.S. certified Physical Education/Health Education Teacher and Red Cross Certified Lifeguard, who was born and raised in Kenmore, NY.  I earned my undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Adapted Physical Education from SUNY Cortland. In addition to my lifelong interest in sports and fitness, I also enjoy music, woodworking, and staying active with friends, family, and my 13-year old pug, Lily.

 

 

 

Librarian

Teacher: Mrs. Janik

I have a bachelor's degree in Health & Human Services from SUNY Buffalo. Whether I'm overseeing the library, helping in the office, or managing the Chocolate Candy Bar Sale, life at SME has been an adventure, which I have looked forward to every day for 5 years. SME has been my home since my twin daughters started here in Pre-K 3. Away from school, I love spending time with my husband, daughters and two cats, as well as traveling to new places and trying the local food.

 

 

 

Music

Teacher: Mr. Hunter

I grew up on the North Shore of Long Island and came to Buffalo in 1987 to attend college at UB.  I received my Bachelor (1992) and Masters (2002) degrees from UB in the field of Music Education.  I have been teaching Music and, occasionally, Technology in the diocese of Buffalo for 25 years, as well as a few years in the Lakeshore School District as an elementary band director.  I teach private music lessons on flute, clarinet, saxophones, trumpet, trombone, and baritone horn as well as working as an instrument repair technician.

 

 

 

Religion (K-5)

Teacher: Mrs. Abbatoy

My name is Mrs. Charlene Abbatoy.  I have a Bachelor Degree in Education and a Master Degree in Special Education. For the 2017-2018 school year I will be teaching K-5 Religion. I have taught 16 years at St. Mary's and have been in Catholic Education for over 30 years.

 

 

 

Religion (6-8)

Teacher: Mrs. Hoag

2017-2018 is my 4th year serving the SME community!  In addition to teaching grades 6-8 Religion, I teach Pre-K religion, I am the Campus Minister and I am the STREAM Coordinator. Currently, I am in graduate school working towards a Masters Degree in Religious Education from Felician College. I am so blessed to be sharing our Catholic faith and the love of God with the SME community.

 

 

 

Spanish

Teacher: Mrs. Trulin

I have taught Spanish at SME for 4 years. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education with a concentration in Spanish as well as a Master's Degree in Literacy. Previous to teaching at SME, I taught Spanish and was the AIS/RTI teacher for ELA at Annunciation School in Elma.  I am thrilled to be back with the wonderful students and families at SME!

 

 

 

Technology

Teacher: Mr. Kroll

I have been employed by St. Mary's Elemetary for 8 years. Along with teaching Technology to Pre-K and 6th - 8th Grade, I am also SME's Technology Coordinator. In my spare time, I like to root for my favorite professional sports teams. I am looking forward to a wonderful year here at St. Mary's Elementary!
